Farmers Market Season

This weekend marks the beginning of farmers market season.  In honor of all the farmers in the County we thought we would highlight some images of historic farms in what was then rural Salt Lake County.

Professor J. G. Hogesin inspecting the wheatfield of Gus Kaisworm in Taylorsville, 1922.

Boys Club members and their crops, 1925.

Herd of pure-bred Holsteins owned by Ben Eldredge, 1925.

These images come from the Annual Report of Extension Work: Agricultural Agent of Salt Lake County, 1922; Utah Cooperative Extension Work in Agriculture and Home Economics; Salt Lake County Commission Correspondence, microfilm 003746. For more images and information check out our online exhibit “Documenting the Changing Face of the American West.”

The Downtown Farmers Market opens Saturday June 11th in Pioneer Park, and the Wasatch Front Farmers Market opens Sunday June 12th at Wheeler Farm. For a complete listing of farmers markets in Salt Lake County and across the state visit the Utah’s Own website.
