Polk Directories
We frequently have patrons who are compiling family histories, and would like to know where their relatives have lived over the years. Looking through tax ledgers for a lost relative can be time consuming and difficult, however, you can simply look up your relatives in the city directory. Our office has cities directories from 1958-1983 and a few others up to 1999. The University of Utah’s Marriott Library and the Utah History Research Center both have nearly complete sets of old city directories dating back to 1869. The listings include commercial and residential entries, including renters.
