As we have shown in past entries, we often come across records that catch our attention while we research patron requests. These photographs from the Salt Lake County Tax Appraisal Cards and Photographs did just that.
Neighborhood kids often show up in the Tax Appraisal photographs, mostly incidentally but other times deliberately posing with their friends. These 3 photographs differ in that they appear to show a boy actively helping the assessor. All were taken during property assessments in the last few days of May in 1938. The location of the houses is around 8800 South and 60 East in Sandy City. The boy could be related to the assessor, or perhaps he was a helpful local kid just starting his summer vacation. It is one of those small mysteries that we may never figure out.
